Valley Forge National Historical Park Traveler Patch

No battle was fought here, but Valley Forge played a critical role in the American Revolution. While the British spent the winter of 1777-78 in Philadelphia, General George Washington and his encamped army endured hunger, sickness, starvation and death nearby. Washington’s now tougher and more disciplined soldiers departed in the spring and went on to win American independence. This Pennsylvania site preserves much of the land and many of the structures from the historic encampment.
