The American Kestrel is the smallest and most common falcon in North America. This bird of prey is easily identified by its black “mustache and sideburns” facial markings, with males distinguished by their blue-gray wings. They are often seen perched and bobbing for balance on fence posts and telephone wires or hovering over open fields with rapidly beating wings as they search for large insects, reptiles and small rodents.
