Pileated Woodpecker

$6.00
The Pileated Woodpecker is one of the largest forest birds in North America. Nearly the size of a crow, they have a bright red crest, a large black body, and white stripes down their face and neck; males are distinguished by red “moustache” stripes that the females lack. Pileated woodpeckers prefer mature deciduous or mixed forests with large, standing dead trees and downed wood. They drill rectangular-shaped holes in rotted trees to feed on carpenter ants, other insects, and occasionally wild fruits and nuts.
1.5" Hard enamel pin; black metal.
