Part of the Redwood family, the Sequoia tree is among the tallest and heaviest in the world. This majestic evergreen grows to an average height of 164’-279’ (50-85 m) in groves of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Spongy, thick and fire-resistant bark covers the massive trunk of the Sequoia, with diameters ranging from 20’-26’ (6-8 m). The oldest known Sequoia (estimated to be close to 3,400 years old) and the largest (General Sherman) can both be found in Sequoia National Park.
