Yucca
Yucca plants stand between 4-18” tall, with taproots that extend at least 30 feet long, to help provide essential hydration in arid climates; these spiky-leaved plants are widespread throughout the desert southwest, with flower spikes in bloom from April through June. The yucca is an important native plant used by the Ancestral Pueblo people, supplying food in the form of blossoms, fruits, and roots; fiber for weaving sandals and rope; soap and shampoo from the roots; and the ends of the sharp, pointed leaves made excellent needles for sewing.
