The name “coati” comes from the indigenous Tuipan languages of South America and is a combination of the words for “nose” and “belt”, referring to the way they sleep with their nose tucked into their belly. In the United States, coatis can be seen in the hills and canyons of Arizona, New Mexico & Texas. Around the size of a large housecat, the coati is an opportunistic omnivore, eating almost anything they can find including fruit, tarantulas, small reptiles and rodents, as well as birds and their eggs.
