The only U.S. national park traversed by fabled U.S. Route 66 was a wet, forested landscape roamed by dinosaurs more than 200 million years ago. Mineral-rich water that saturated huge fallen coniferous trees helped crystallize the wood through time, creating the rock-hard texture and rainbow-like colors that characterize today’s “petrified” trees. These monument-like logs long have attracted visitors, who also discover the park’s animal and plant fossils, ancient petroglyphs, historic sites and abundant Arizona desert scenery.
1.125" Hard enamel pin; nickel metal.
