Magnificent California condors with wingspans approaching 10 feet soar above this Golden State destination that is continually on the move. The park’s signature volcanic rock formations were located almost 200 miles south of their present location some 23 million years ago. The rocks are continually being pushed northward along the San Andreas Fault by tectonic forces, moving more than a half inch each year. Park visitors walk through talus caves and enjoy spring wildflower displays.
