Roseate Spoonbill
Regular price
$6.00
The Roseate Spoonbill feeds by sweeping its spoon-like bill from side to side underwater, snapping shut whenever a fish or crustacean is encountered. They are social birds that breed and travel in flocks. Now protected, this bizarre wading bird of the southern coasts nearly became extinct in the United States due to plume hunting for the fashion industry in the early 1900s. Their bright pink color comes from a carotene-rich diet.
1.25" Hard enamel pin; nickel metal.
