Joshua Tree National Park Merit Badge Magnet

Sharp-spined members of the agave family, Joshua trees are the most prominent residents at this Southern California park’s higher elevations. As they cling to life in a harsh environment where the Mojave and Sonoran deserts converge, these trees with leaves so durable that Native Americans once fashioned them into sandals provide food and shelter for a great variety of mammals, birds, reptiles and insects. Visitors also enjoy Joshua Tree’s fascinating rock formations and palm oases.
