Dry Tortugas National Park Traveler Patch
Travel by boat or seaplane is required to reach these seven small islands 70 miles west of Key West, Florida. Dry Tortugas visitors tour Fort Jefferson, a massive 19th-century structure that housed Civil War era soldiers and prisoners, including Dr. Samuel Mudd, who set the broken leg of Abraham Lincoln assassin John Wilkes Booth. The park also offers excellent snorkeling and diving, swimming, bird watching, camping and possible encounters with a tortuga (sea turtle).
