Hooded Merganser

The Hooded Merganser is a small duck with a distinct collapsible crest. The male’s crest has white and black coloring, while the female’s coloring is cinnamon. They like to nest in tree cavities where the lip is anywhere from 4 to 15 feet off the ground. Their bills are serrated and ducklings are expected to leave the nest and find their own food a mere 24 hours after hatching.
