Western Bluebird

The Western Bluebird is a medium-sized songbird commonly seen in parklands of the West. Unlike other species of bluebird, it prefers open forests over large meadows, nesting in tree hollows and man-made nest boxes. Males are dark blue with a bright rust-orange chest while females are a drab gray-blue with a pale orange breast. Weighing in at about an ounce, they eat insects in the summer, fruits and seeds in the winter.
