Black-capped Chickadees are active, acrobatic, social birds that live in flocks. They’re found in deciduous and mixed forests, open woods, parks, willow thickets and disturbed areas. Their diets vary seasonally: in spring, summer and fall, their diets consist of half plant material and half bugs, spiders and animal carcasses; in the winter, they eat 80-90% animal and insect matter. They seldom perch near one another while taking food or eating.
