The California Condor is the largest flying bird in North America and one of the most endangered birds in the world. It is a dominant scavenger that will steal a carcass away from smaller species. Breeding does not begin until they are about six to eight years old. The female lays just one egg in a brood. The young is dependent upon the parents for more than one year, and consequently condor pairs usually breed only every other year.
