Great Blue Heron
The Great Blue Heron is the largest heron in North America with a wingspan of 7 feet and height of 4 feet, yet it weighs only 5 to 8 pounds. Great Blue Herons extend their heads when taking to the air, but quickly fold the head back on their shoulders in flight. Adapted to both freshwater and saltwater habitats, their diet includes large fish, reptiles, amphibians, insects, smaller birds and small mammals.
