Kobuk Valley National Park Traveler Pin
In this Alaska park, boreal forests of spruce, birch, poplar and aspen become stunted, falling victims to the short growing season, permafrost and desiccating winds of America’s far north. Soon, the trees disappear, yielding to the arctic tundra. Prominent features in this vast wilderness are huge sand dunes found in the southern portions of the Kobuk Valley. These seemingly out of place geologic features are crisscrossed twice a year by hundreds of thousands of migrating caribou.
