Caribou Pin

Alaska is home to about 750,000 Caribou, divided among 31 recognized herds. They have large, concave hooves which spread widely to walk easily on top of snow and soft tundra, and also function as paddles when swimming. Caribou are the only member of the deer family in which both sexes grow antlers. Adult bulls average around 350-400 pounds and grow massive antlers; cows weigh up to 225 pounds and antlers are usually slender and irregular.
