The Colorado columbine is a bushy perennial, found growing in shaded montane and subalpine forests, as well as talus slopes and rocky alpine sites throughout the Rocky Mountains. Flowers can be seen in early spring at low elevations and continue to bloom through August in cooler alpine areas. The inner petals of the Colorado Columbine are usually white, with sepals and spurs varying from a light lavender shade to dark indigos and blues. Due to their unique shape, columbines attract long-tongued nectar feeders such as moths and hummingbirds.
