The Trumpeter Swan is the largest extant species of waterfowl in the world. Often confused with the smaller Tundra Swan, the Trumpeter is identified by its large stature and wingspan of 8 feet as well as snowy white feathers and jet black bill. Though heavily hunted for game and feathers in the early 20th century and unusually sensitive to lead poisoning, populations have shown stable growth in the 21st century.
