A stunning and iconic Northwest wildflower with blue-purple flowers, Great Camas’ can be found growing wildly in wetlands, marshes, and moist hillsides throughout the Pacific Northwest. The bulbs of the Great Camas are one of the most important root foods of western North American indigenous peoples; they were traditionally pit-cooked to develop their sweet taste, and then processed for long-term storage & trade. Stalks & leaves were used for making mattresses, and the plant is also used as a cough medicine by the Nez Perce people.
