Indian Paintbrush is a native wildflower of western North America that grows in diverse habitats, ranging from 4” to 20” (10 to 50 cm) tall and blooming from March through June. Paintbrush is semi-parasitic, getting part of its nutritional needs from other plants by attaching to the host plant’s roots. The clusters of vibrant red hues along the stems are not flower petals but rather the leaves or “bracts” of the plant.
