Milkweed Bookmark

Milkweed is named for the milk-white substance that can be found inside its stems and leaves. The plant’s distinct spherical clusters cannot be missed, flowering pink and purple on top of stems that can grow up to 6 feet tall. The milkweed’s distinctive seed pods split open in late summer to reveal fluffy “parachutes” that carry their seeds long distances in the wind. This wildflower is extremely important in recovering the dwindling monarch population, providing food for the butterflies and sanctuaries for their larvae.
