Porcupines are a member of the rodent family. A Porcupine may have up to 30,000 quills, which it uses for defense. It cannot shoot these quills. When predators approach it will turn its back, raise its quills and swing out with its tail. Upon contact its quills will embed in the attacker. New quills will grow to replace the lost quills. Porcupines are nocturnal and herbivores and spend most of their time in trees.
