The White-tailed Deer lives in rough, open areas in southern Canada and east of the Rocky Mountains in the United States. They use speed and agility to outrun predators, sprinting up to 30 mph and leaping as high as 10 feet and as far as 30 feet in a single bound. Adult White-tailed Deer have a reddish-brown coat in spring and summer, turning a grey-brown through fall and winter; fawns have white spots, helpful for camouflage.
